Things to do in Staines

A busy market town, Staines-upon-Thames offers opportunities for picturesque walks around its streets and markets, as well as excellent shopping in over 100 stores. A slice of England that’s steeped in history, there are plenty of attractions close to The Swan Hotel for guests to enjoy.

King John sealed the Magna Carta 800 years ago at Runnymede, a ten-minute drive from The Swan Hotel. Nowadays, this peaceful spot is the perfect place for relaxing walks along the river and through tranquil greenery. The National Trust provides information and activities on-site, as well as a tea room for refreshments.

Said to be the Queen's favourite place of residence, Windsor Castle is a stone's throw from The Swan Hotel. With over 900 years of royal history, Windsor Castle is still the largest occupied castle in the world, and is open to visitors all year round. William the Conqueror founded the castle in the 11th century, and it has since been home to 39 monarchs.

In the heart of Windsor Great Park, you’ll find Savill Gardens. The grounds’ magnificently maintained lawns and well-stocked herbaceous borders are a horticulturist’s heaven. There are also plenty of sunny spots within the park to soak up the scenery or enjoy a picnic after following one of the recommended walks.

For fun and adventure, Legoland is under 20 minutes’ drive from The Swan Hotel, and offers rides and attractions to entertain the whole family. The stunning views of the surrounding area can be taken in from one of the elevated rides, or from the entrance to the park, where you can see Windsor Castle rising out of the hills.

The Swan Hotel is less than 15 minutes’ drive away from Heathrow airport, which makes it an ideal place to stay before or after a flight.
